Thanks for this one! I loved the history lesson about this area of Seoul, to which I've been many times but never fully understood how all the pieces connect. My wife worked with Park Won Soon at his NPO when she was in college. I only met him once but I think he was a good man. It's a horrible thing how the situation went down. He was a champion for women's rights, social and ecological wellness, bar none.
I used to think of all the 'what ifs' regarding Park and others. But at some point, I understood that what has happened is done, and in this moment our only real duty is to do what we can, to tell the world about the beautiful things, to help preserve them, to make them if we can.
I think your writing does that too, so thanks for your dedication :-)
Thanks for sharing. Park Won-soon was absolutely a liberal darling, and he features prominently in my other post about Seoul Metro Line 9 (https://www.substack-bahn.net/p/hell-line-lessons-from-seouls-controversial). It was a huge huge shock when Park died; I can perhaps even say that event was a factor in me starting this Substack!
