Do you plan to write about the other JR companies in the future? I'd be curious what your take would be on JR Hokkaido, who is getting a shinkansen in the next few decades...
Perhaps if JR Hokkaido really hits some crisis point in the future. As I write in the post, JR Shikoku appealed to me more as a story because unlike Hokkaido, which at least has a center of gravity in Sapporo to restructure its network around, Shikoku is geographically and demographically limited from any natural rail network solution. I can imagine a JR Hokkaido (not profitable still) where all rail lines feed into Sapporo and its future Shinkansen connection.
May I suggest some of Professor Michael Hudson's writings, he covers the disastrous effect of the Plaza Accords and following neo-liberal financialization on Japan.

I’ve never heard of Michael Hudson but will have to check out now!
