Many thanks! This brings back happy memories of rail travel in 60s Japan, and of the huge but remarkably orderly demonstrations.
Incidentally, union membership in China recently reached 72%, the highest of any country, and Chinese workers get 58% of GDP in wages, the highest of any country.
Hi S. Y. Lee, hope all is well for you and looking forward to seeing one of your post again. If you should ever have a chance to visit either Hong Kong or Toronto, reach out and I'll see if I can meet you as I frequently fly between these two locations, which have extremely different issues with public transport, particularly rail. BTW, if you have any interest, then the YouTube channel "Not Just Bikes" and the political organization "Strong Towns" have interesting material on use of rail in sustainable development.
Hi J M! Thanks for writing me. I'm actually working on my last part of the JNR/JR series that is a follow up to the two-parter of JNR's death. I know you enjoyed the posts. I had to take a break due to a new job and a new married life! But I hope to get back in the swing of things and keep this Substack alive and thriving!
This is great! A wonderful part of the saga of Japanese railway history that needed this treatment. Thank you S.Y. Lee.
Thank you for reading!

Total coincidence, of course.

Congratulations on having a wife to share life, and a new job too. May you have smooth rails to ride to exciting destinations.
